Shack Key Location: Where to Find and Use the Shack Key
Find the Shack Key in The Lantern of the Laughless Saint, learn how it connects to Magdal's Rest, Nuisance, storage, and early housing.
Shack Key Location
The Shack Key is one of the most useful early items because it points toward a simple player need: a place to stay, store items, and reset after messy first quests. Search demand around this item usually comes from players doing early Magdal's Rest content or the Nuisance quest.
The safest current route is to treat the Shack Key as a reward connected to helping the merchant Pichess and clearing the nuisance problem around Magdal's Rest.
How to Get the Shack Key
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Reach Magdal's Rest after the opening beach |
| 2 | Speak with Pichess or the relevant merchant NPC |
| 3 | Accept the early nuisance/storage-related task |
| 4 | Follow the objective outside or around town |
| 5 | Return to claim the Shack Key reward |
If you are unsure which quest you are on, use the Nuisance Quest Walkthrough as the full step-by-step route.
Where to Use the Shack Key
The key should open a shack in or near Magdal's Rest. Once you receive it, check the small buildings around the settlement before wandering to distant locations. The shack functions as an early base and is especially valuable before you begin longer trips toward ruins, NPC chains, or Dark Water.
Why It Matters
- Gives you a reliable early landmark.
- Helps with inventory management.
- Creates a return point before risky exploration.
- Connects the Nuisance quest to the broader Magdal's Rest hub.
Troubleshooting

| You have the key but cannot find the shack | Check small houses around Magdal's Rest |
| Door still will not open | Confirm you are at the correct shack, not another locked building |
